Streets of Light
A trail of Light, Love & Hope
26 October -
3 November 2024
What is Streets of Light?
The Streets of Light initiative was first run in Sheffield in 2017.
The idea behind it is very simple.
We seek to bring change & transformation to neighbourhoods & communities through window displays that convey a message of Light, Love & Hope as an alternative to Halloween.
For one week, at the end of October, people create a design for their home, their place of work, a school, a church, a shop….in fact anywhere where there is a window!
The windows are then lit up every evening, for people to spot and find.
It is that simple!
The only rule is that each display must include one of the key words - Light, Love or Hope - the rest is up to you and your imagination!
Watch the video below to catch the vision.
You can download the video from DropBox by clicking the button below. This video is royalty free so you can share it on any social network or public gathering.
We produce online trail maps so people can find the locations of decorated windows in their local area.
the story so far
In 2017, 100 homes and businesses took part and decorated their windows with displays.
Since then, the message of Streets of Light has not changed – it is still all about showing light, love and hope on our streets and in our communities - but the event has really grown!
Now hundreds and hundreds of windows are lit up each year, not just in Sheffield, but also in Cambridge, Wolverhampton, Tunbridge Wells, Hertford, Loughborough, Lincoln, Leeds, Scarborough, Barnet, Nottingham and many other places too... including some overseas!
You can join in by decorating a window in your home or workplace, and by seeking out other decorated windows in your neighbourhood - just go for a walk, run or cycle with friends or family.
Let’s make Streets of Light 2024 the biggest and best yet!
